"Change Will Happen"

For my history project I decided to create an album cover that was to convey the topic I was given. My album cover displays, starting from the top left corner going to the bottom right corner, the change that has occurred and change that is still happening today when It came to African Americans and people of color. I made up a band called "Civil Revolution" to contribute to my overall message. My topic was "Landmark Court Decisions" and so I was to display the case I chose and its connection to today and how the enduring issue emphasized in the case has changed in the present. While change has happened, I titled the album as "Change Will Happen" as the enduring issue displayed in the case I chose still affects society today. I chose Dred Scott v. Sandford as my case which dealt with the problem that slavery posed and connected it to the BLM movement today as both display change and the fight for change which continues today with the BLM campaign.

History and meaning behind my album cover that I tried to convey:
_____________________________
The Dred Scott v. Sandford case of 1857, as it's ruling served as a contributing factor to the beginning of the Civil War, I wanted to display the change that had occurred since that ruling. I connected this case to the Brown v. Board of Education of 1954 which acted as one of the cornerstones for the Civil Rights movement. As the Dred Scott v. Sandford case failed, the Civil War erupted soon after, making America take the hard way for the change the Dred Scott v. Sandford case was just trying to achieve without bloodshed. As the Reconstruction Amendments were introduced, change was going in the right direction for African Americans, but soon diverged with the Jim Crow Laws. Then came the Brown v. Board of Education case of 1954 which was successful in taking apart the segregation laws, at least starting with education. Soon, the Civil Rights movement arose and brought about even greater change as it abolished segregation. Bringing us to today, where African Americans and people of color have been able to gain more rights and freedoms due to events like these. However, they are still receiving unfair treatment as they are discriminated against resulting in issues such as institutionalized racism and police brutality which end up with someone getting hurt or worse, and so today the BLM movement arose to help in fighting this. I wanted my album cover to help in symbolizing hope as "Change Will Happen" and proof of this is shown by all these people who have risen throughout the centuries to create change, who stood up on their own two feet and went out for it as people are doing today seen by the BLM movement.
